In this seminal work, Professor Robert Putnam positions the notion of social capital against a background of post-Reagan America, which is essence, marked a fall in community and a decline in our civic, social, associational and political engagement. Putnam’s empirical examination of American relationships and civic participation set the scene for much work to follow, and remains one of my favourite books on the subject of human connectedness.
